Robert L. Allen, Sr.

Mr. Robert L. Allen, Sr., of  288 County Line Church Road, Milledgeville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Navicent Health Baldwin, Milledgeville, Georgia.

Funeral arrangements were held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11:00 AM from the Freedom Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment followed in Mitchell Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.

Deacon Robert Lee Allen Sr. was born in Baldwin County on February 20, 1936 to the parents of the late Jack Allen Sr. and Mattie Lou Washington Allen. In Robert’s journey through life he met and married the love of his life Fannie Mae Allen. Amongst their union 7 children was born. He enjoyed spending time with his family, vacationing, going to church, and singing the gospel. Robert was a member of the Piney Grove Gospel Singers. He was also a member of the Joppa’s Temple Grand Lodge Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Freemasonry AF & AM Jurisdiction of Georgia INC. In his later years he simply got enjoyment from taking in the view from his front porch relaxing in the sweet sounds of country living.

Robert was a member at Mitchell Zion Baptist Church where he contributed multiple services over the course of his membership, such as, Deacon and chairman. He assisted in making sure the church was clean and maintained for services. He also visited various churches and nursing home where he prayed for the sick and just rejoiced in the name of our Lord God and Saviour Jesus Christ. 

Robert attended the school system of Baldwin County. He had a strong work ethic that was passed down to his children and grandchildren. He was employed at numerous jobs over the years a few being Central State Hospital, Griffin Pipe, and Engelhard Corporation Plant. Robert was also blessed with many skills of carpentry, electrical, and plumbing just to name a few.

Robert Allen Sr. leaves in cherished memory his loving wife Fannie Mae Veal Allen of 64 years, 5 children Charles Lee (Phylis) Allen, Catherine (Thomas) Stewart, Wytina (Bruce) Jackson, Maxine Reaves, and Kelly Allen, 2 daughter in laws Geraldine Allen and Brenda Allen, 2 sisters Emma Wilson and Viola Willis, In laws Melton Veal, Timothy (Lucille) Veal, Louis Whisby, Freddie (Shirley) Veal Sr., Annie Lee Allen, Lucille Solomon, Lauren Beal, Elloise Veal, 18 grandchildren,  and 28 great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his two sons Deacon Robert Lee Allen Jr., Deacon Sylvester Allen, son in law Ulyssess Reaves, siblings Jack Allen Jr., Chairman Andrew Allen, Clara Wright, Roline Gordon, Wille Allen, and John H. Allen.
