Lucille was born to the late Jasper (Jack) Young and Carrie Milline in Putnam County, Georgia. She received her education in the Baldwin County School System and graduated from Carver High with the class of 1956. She married George O. Hawkins September 1, 1957 in Milledgeville, Ga. The couple moved to New York where they raised two daughters and she became a foster mother to many children.
