Lillian Lorraine (Reeves) Butts

Mrs. Lillian Butts, of 2353 Woodview Circle, Milledgeville, Georgia passed away on August 18, 2019 at her residence.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 AM from the Pine Ridge Baptist Church, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Lillian Lorraine Reeves Butts was born on March 3, 1927 to the late Rev. Spencer Reeves and the late Otelia Litman Reeves.

Lillian was a native of Milledgeville, Georgia and was educated in the area schools. Following in her father's footsteps, she became a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church. She also visited other churches until her health declined. Lillian held several jobs during her lifetime and was the first black woman to work the lunch counter at the Culver Kidd Restaurant. She also worked for Green Acres Nursing Home, The Governer's Mansion, and lastly, Central State Hospital, where she found her calling. There, she graduated from pharmacology class and was pinned. She enjoyed 30 years of service before she retired due to illness.

Lillian loved helping her father on his farming plantation and would go with him in the wagon to sell many of the crops that were grown on the farm. She loved music and dancing in her early years and then turned to knitting, sewing, and word puzzles. She loved her large family and enjoyed cooking for them and their many friends. Everyone knew they could expect a good meal at her house. She became a second mother to many as they were at Mrs. Lillian's house more than their own. All birthday and holiday dinners were spent at her house and everyone was always welcome.

Lillian was joined in holy matrimony to the late George Butts, Jr in September of 1945.

On Sunday, August 18, 2019, Lillian departed this world at her son's residence after a lengthy illness, leaving behind a long life of memories. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Butts, Jr. and her children, George Reginald Butts and Joan Dianne “Tootsie” Boardraye. Her memory shall forever live in the hearts of those left behind. Lillian is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Scott (Leroy) of Irwinton, GA and Ms. Wanda D. Butts of Milledgeville, GA and seven sons, Mr. Earl Butts (Edna), Mr. Wayne L. Butts (Erica), Mr. Spencer R. Butts (Evelyn), Mr. Johnny L. Butts (Linda), Mr. Bruce A. Butts (Angela) all of Milledgeville, GA, Mr. Micheal B. Butts of California, and Mr. Gary C. Butts of Nevada. She also leaves behind eighteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Clyde J. Woolfork of Milledgeville, GA, Mrs. Lois O. Girdharry (Reginald) of Greenville, NC, and Mrs. Mildred Mayfield (Paul) of Las Vegas, NV.
