Joan "Tootsie" Boardraye

Mrs. Joan “Tootsie” Boardraye, of 401 North Wilkinson Street, Milledgeville, Georgia passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Coliseum Medical Center, Macon, Georgia.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of All Faiths, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment followed in Scott's Chapel Cemetery, Steven's Pottery, Georgia.

Joan Diane “Tootsie” Boardraye was born to the late George Butts, Jr and Lillian Reeves Butts on November 22, 1955.

Tootsie, a native of Milledgeville, Georgia, was educated in the Baldwin County School System. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Union Baptist Church. She later joined Flagg Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the church choir. Over the past few years, she has been a regular attendee at Trinity CME Church. Tootsie held several jobs during her lifetime. She dutifully worked at Central State Hospital, Rheem, Days Inn and Holiday Inn Express. Later in life she decided to end her time working outside the house and became a full-time housewife and care giver for her ailing mom. She was a very devoted daughter.

Tootsie was joined in holy matrimony to Franchorn Boardraye on September 14, 2002. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. One of her favorite pastimes was dancing and listening to music. She also enjoyed helping others, especially the elderly. She faithfully and diligently cared for her mother until her own health began to decline.

On Sunday, August 4, 2019, Tootsie departed this earthly world,leaving behind many cherished memories. She is survived by her mother, Lillian R. Butts, devoted husband, Franchorn Boardraye, her children, Marlo Newkirk of Las Vegas, NV and Sojourner “Sojo” Mays (Tavious) of Savannah, GA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Marlo Dakiea Newkirk, Tatyianah Whiting, and Israel Mays. She also leaves behind two sisters, Barbara Scott (Leroy) of Irwinton, GA and Wanda Butts of Milledgeville, GA and seven brothers, Earl Butts (Edna), Wayne Butts (Erica), Spencer Butts (Evelyn), Johnny Butts (Linda) and Bruce Butts (Angela) all of Milledgeville,GA, Gary Butts and Michael Butts of California, a devoted sister in law,Evita Willis(Chris) of Milledgeville, GA and brothers-in-law,Christopher Boardraye of New Jersey, Jock Boardraye of Virginia and Ronald Darkins of North Carolina. Tootsie also leaves to cherish her memory 3 aunts, Lois Girdharry (Ronald) of North Carolina, Mildred Mayfield (Paul) of Las Vegas, NV, Clyde Woolfork and devoted aunts, Ellen Solomon and Joanne Adams of Milledgeville, GA in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
