Ms. Addie B. Johnson, of 195 North Main Street, Milledgeville, Georgia passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Chaplinwood Nursing Home, Milledgeville, Georgia.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM from the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Slater's Funeral Home. Interment was held in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.Addie Bernice Johnson, affectionately known as "Sister" and Ms. Bernice, was born the youngest of four to Willie Johnson and Anna Arrie Emma Stubbs Johnson on August 18, 1927 in Baldwin County, Milledgeville, Georgia.
Addie was educated in Baldwin Co. Eddy/Carver High School and later at Fort Valley State College. Addie taught school for a few short years at Harrisburg Elementary before moving to Chicago, Illinois. Once in Chicago, Addie worked sixteen years as a Social Worker Technician at Cook County Hospital. Years later after the passing of her father, Willie, and the decline of health of her mother, Anna, she moved back home to Milledgeville, Georgia. Back in her home town she was employed by Central State Hospital for 25 years where she held a variety of positions until her retirement in 1988.
Addie was a social butterfly; a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Milledgeville, Georgia where she was part of the Council of Catholic Women (CCW) Helping Hands, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 523, which she held various positions, a member of the Georgia Federation of Colored Women's Club, Order of The Eastern Star and the Happy Hour Sewing club. Addie also attended her family's home church (Oak Grove Baptist No. 1) and belonged to the Brothers and Sisters of Love Society, the Brothers and Sisters Benevolent Lodge No. 2.
Addie leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Valeria Johnson Bond (Jeffery, Sr.) of Detroit, MI; bonus daughter, Cynthia Robinson (Gregory) of Chicago, IL; granddaughters, Addie Simone Bond, Jaye Bond Clement (Norman); grandson, Jeffery Bond, Jr., all of Detroit, MI; great great grandsons, Heru and Noble Clement of Detroit, MI.
Addie was preceded in death by parents, Willie & Anna Johnson, brother, Willie Clarence Johnson, sisters, Lillie Mae Waller and Leanna Hogan; devoted niece, Rongelyn Hogan; devoted friends, Mary Thomas, Clyde & Vicki Woolfork, Olsen C. Rogers and Cynthia Hill-Walker; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
